sweet days

we wove the days around one another,

this is the stuff our memories will be made of

wishing you all very sweet end of the year days

see you all next year

waiting

 radio softly playing and raindrops,

in a few hours this house will be filled with voices,

that's the best part,

forgetting cold and rain,

enjoying the lights and each other

me too, i have been painting an owl this morning, a winter owl,

(i see so many beautiful owls out there in blogland)

there are owls living in the neighbourhood,

i see them at night ,sitting in the car,

big impressive shadows, sailing on their wide wings,

they make me hold my breathe each time

wishing you a warm weekend

stepping stones

my head is full of images and i have only two hands

and  there's the waiting (i'm still collaging in layers)

'till the glue  has dried

 i work on two pieces at the same time 

than i put them somewhere in sight

and see if my gut feelings(is this the right word?)  tell me they are finished...or not

 i feel like painting too

the sweet guests will arrive on friday, 

the house will be ready (just a bit magic sprinkling here and there) 

they are more then welcome

so are the lenghtening days

dc shelter

there is a space enclosed by bricks

called home, where i find shelter

there is a place in your arms...shelter

and there, in that labyrinth, behind my closed eyes

is a spot (sometimes well hidden)  it offers shelter

walls can collapse

arms may leave

i can even lose my sanity

but for now i'm fine

i am sheltered

dear friends,

may i invite you to this weeks drawing challenge ,

'sheep' would have been a nice theme too actually,

but it's not the theme for now,

i had ' shelter' in mind,

so it will be

dc cactus

only one cactus lives in my house, 

many, many years ago i found it on my way,

an old lady who had been looking after it  had died and

the people who were clearing out her house had put it 

outside in the garbage bin, i felt sorry for it and took it home.

every year in december it flowers,very vibrantly fuschia,

 and that is what it is doing right now,

it's a gentle cactus without  spines (lucky me)

but the collage i made is about another cactus, 

the opuntia, 

it not only produces the edible cactus fig but there's

also a very tiny lice living on it, the coccus cacti,

from which the crimson- coloured dye carmine

is derived,, it's extracted from it's body and eggs

and used as food colouring and as cosmetics.

made me wonder, when we humans find something we can use we use it,

even if it's very tiny and living on cacti

when...

these misty, dark days with scarce rays of sunlight,

 quickly disappearing dusty gold and red in the evening sky,

and weather forecast speaking of  snow

do bring me in a wintry state of mind,

more inwardly directed, literally and figuratively,

sitting by the fire reflecting, imagining,

reading, sketching, looking forward to the holidays,

feeling pleasantly warm realizing how lucky i am

dc little red riding hood

I started very enthusiastic an almost classical

scene.... had to try another one, one i never found 

in my book when i was a child, and could not resist  drawing the one below,

iconic, that's how much they are a part of our past and present,

captivated by collages and mixed media

the ideas and images keep coming,

 there's something very 

satisfying about finding the right paper, cutting and tearing the forms and building up layers

 there is a shortage of natural light, daylight , i stop painting when the 

darkness sets in but it doesn't hold me back from cutting and gluing.

there is that november stillness in the garden

a bird scratching

the crunching of dried leaves

flames without fire

a soft humanlike sigh through the bushes

and that scent

oh a scent awakening all senses
