To paint or not to paint....

difficult sometimes to stay in while the sun is out and blossoms are appearing everywhere. Open door, gentle breeze, blackbird whistling... feels nice. Doing some sketching, preparing a new canvas, time doesn't exist. And than the rain sets in.

The sisters mermaid , not yet finished.  There is something I  like about this painting in this stage.  I have to look for a way that adds to the atmosphere I want , without it becoming too sweet, smooth and detailed.  Acrylic  paint and me ; it feels like we have a long journey ahead.

  1. This is a lovely stage of the painting. :) I know what you mean, it still has a mystery to it that would be lost with too much detail. Oh decisions decisions!xx

  2. I agree about the distractions of the good weather! I am almost happy that we will be having some rain this weekend so I will have to stay inside and work! I also agree about the beauty of your unfinished painting - there's a certain softness to it, like a song in the distance coming nearer but not yet clear...

  3. Sunny cool days are good, windy days with rain are good, spring days enchant us to be out of doors.

The sisters mermaid are still a vision. A part of them is still behind the veil.

    Wishing you a fine day!

  5. This post is like a little story in itself - from the fascinating interior to the painting itself. Really charming.

  7. I love the simlicity of the mermaids and can understand how you want to keep that feeling of airyness.
It seems that you have a similiar style to mine where you put the colour on to your canvas first and then sketch on top. This is something new that I've been trying and find that it suits me the most. Is that the same for you?

  8. Yes, it's that time of year when the warm breezes and blooming flowers take us away from the studio and outside to play. I'm preparing my head for this transition...I have a little more time because it's still regularly in the 30'F range and today it is snowing! I'm loving your mermaid painting...the colors & the magic atmosphere.

  9. Thank you all,the mermaids are still waiting patiently, the day will come that I am in the right mood to finish it.

Lieve Nadine, I'm fascinated by windmills, I kind of like the look of them.

Dear Yarrow, yes I always put a thin layer of colour on my canvas. That colour holds already the atmosphere and mood of the painting and I prefer working on a coloured background.

    x to you all
